BSSSA footy Round Robin
Game 1 saw us playing against Daylesford. Our captain, Zach Dunne won the toss and elected to kick with a slight breeze. It was all one way traffic in the first half, with Sebas dominating the scoreboard. However, not all opportunities were capitalised upon with wayward kicking marring our stats, and leaving a small window open for Daylesford. The second half was a lot cleaner and a couple of late goals to Tyson Harris put the final nails in the coffin. Sebas won 6 – 8 – 44 to Daylesford 4 – 3 – 27.
Game 2 was against Mt. Clear college. Although it was a slightly scrappy affair, Sebas took a safe lead going in to half time. After a rev up by coach Mick Kennedy challenging the team to go in harder after the footy, the boys lifted and kicked clear including 3 goals to Taylor Stewart. Sebas won 5 – 5 – 35 to Mt. Clear 0 – 1 – 1.
The final was scheduled to be played immediately after the game against Mt. Clear. However Coach Kennedy pleaded with the officials for 5 extra minutes so his boys could catch their breath. The time was obviously not well utilised, as Ballarat High School stormed to a 4 goal to zip opening half, making a comeback unlikely. Coach Kennedy demanded his troops must play more accountable football, and threw the dice on a few key position changes. A better second half saw Sebas register their first goal and restrict a very polished Ballarat High School side to two goals (one of which was very opportunisitic). Ballarat High School won 6 – 6 – 42 to Sebas 1 – 2 – 8.
The boys were all VERY well behaved and represented the college well.
Best players across all three games were:
1 vote – T. Stewart for his dominance up forward
2 votes – Z. Dunne for his ability to organise and command the backline with regular rebounds from inside the opposition 50
3 votes – B. Broughton for his attack on the ball and commitment to contests. His in-and-under ball work in the centre was second to none.
