Drug Action Week 2009 was held during June 21st – 27th and involved a week of activities aimed at raising awareness about issues associated with the inappropriate use of alcohol and other drugs. Agencies in the Grampian region united to develop and promote several events to raise awareness and educate the community about the dangers and risks associated with misuse of alcohol, especially with younger members of our community.

The major event for this year was an evening hosted by Mr Jim Stynes, at the Wendouree Centre of Performing Arts. The show piece for the night was the back drops used on stage, which consisted of the culmination of artistic work contributed by students from Sebastopol College, Ballarat & Clarendon College, Ballarat Secondary College – Wendouree Campus, Ballarat Christian College, Ballarat High and Daylesford College.

The schools were asked to submit a vertical piece of Art Work, developed by the students in line with the Drug Action Week 2009 theme, “Alcohol is a Drug Too”. Schools were provided with a sheet of plywood measuring 2400x1200 and given two weeks to complete the design.

Creative minds were soon ticking and paint was flying as Crystal Cahill, Hannah Bailey and Larissa Baker dived into the challenge of creating the masterpiece for the event. The result of all this hard work was the announcement that their artwork was judged the winner of the competition. For their creative and hard work, the school and the students received a voucher donated by Radmac Office Choice.
