A CUT ABOVE THE REST
Year 11 students Joshua Lakey was awarded first prize in the ‘JR Free Expression’ category at the ‘International Hair Society’ awards in Melbourne late last month. Joshua had to colour and style hair in front of a large audience and judges. He said it was a huge surprise to win the prestigious event and said it was a lot of fun to compete in such a big competition. Josh is studying for his Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning at the College as well as completing a School Based Apprenticeship at Paul Tabbitt Hair Design in Ballarat. He is in only his first year of this apprenticeship which makes the award even more surprising. There are a number of students who are completing School Based Apprenticeships at the College. These SBAs are excellent pathways for students and allow them to combine work and education. Students often find that this keeps them engaged in their studies and linked in with their future employer. Students interested in such pathways should talk to Mrs Kennedy in the Careers Centre.
