LITERACY PROGRAM

Sebastopol College provides a comprehensive Literacy Program which assists our students from year 7 to year 10. We have four permanent tutors who focus on areas of concern with identified students. Tutors focus on student improvement in reading, writing, speaking, spelling, grammar, presentation, design and research. Literacy work is based upon the units each student is studying in his or her classroom. This method of literacy support allows students to stay abreast of class-work while improving their literacy and builds understanding of how they can successfully meet the requirements of a variety of subjects at their year level. The literacy students at the College are identified through testing and parental or teacher referral.

Student progress, attitude and effort is communicated between the literacy staff and the students’ classroom teachers from whom the work is assigned. Parents are notified if their child has been identified as being in need of literacy support.

If you feel that your child’s literacy level is a concern or you would like feedback on their progress in this area, please ring Rena Clark, our Literacy Coordinator in the Literacy Centre on 5329 3225.
